The city of Santa Rosa has proposed two revenue measures that will be considered at the next City Council meeting on July 23, 2024. These measures aim to address the structural deficit in Santa Rosa’s General Fund and ensure the continuation of essential city services.

Proposed Measures:

  1. Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT):
  • An increase of 2%, raising the TOT rate from 9% to 11%.
  • This adjustment aims to align Santa Rosa’s rates with other cities in the county while generating an estimated $2 million in additional annual revenue for the General Fund.
  1. Business License Tax (BLT):
  • Removal of the $3,000 maximum tax cap and updating the rate structure for businesses with gross receipts greater than $1 million.
  • This change is expected to generate approximately $12 million in additional annual revenue, ensuring a more equitable tax system where larger businesses contribute their fair share.

To provide you with more detailed information and an opportunity to ask questions, we will be inviting Alan Alton, the Chief Financial Officer of Santa Rosa, to speak with our members before the Council meeting. This session will offer valuable insights into the proposed measures and their potential impact on our community and businesses.
